A Brave New Year
Making New Year’s resolutions is a wonderful tradition in which a person makes a promise of self betterment starting on the first of the year. They’re fun to make but are generally difficult to maintain. To perhaps make the best of these intentions a little easier to keep here are four equine inspired resolutions that, if followed through on, will help to make 2016 a horsey and happy year.
#1 – I will actively try to broaden my knowledge base as well as share my knowledge of horsemanship with other riders. Winter is the perfect time to attend equine expos and other learning events to brush up on trail skills and more. The “Events” section of TrailMeister is a great place to find educational events as well as organized rides across the nation.

#2 – I will help my horse to overcome his fears his year, and hopefully he will help me overcome mine. Try not to avoid situations that make you uncomfortable (Remember that uncomfortable is different from dangerous.) in the future. Be willing be push your limits and you’ll find that your confidence will grow. Look for trails that may be a little more challenging when you search for new riding areas.

#3 – I will work with my horse on standing quietly during everyday hoof care. Not only will this make our daily grooming sessions easier it will make farrier visits more enjoyable. The TrailMeister Articles archive has magazine column reprints full of helpful tips and information.

#4 – I will help spread the joy. Help people who don’t have horses share the joy of being around them. Joyfully share the trails with hikers and bikers. Set a good example at the trailhead. Volunteer at a therapeutic riding center.
