Click the icon for directions in google.In Oroville take SR 162 east about 9 miles from junction with SR 70. Turn left at Kelly Ridge stop light. Drive about 1/2 mile north and turn right into Saddle Dam parking area. Parking there is free currently. The Loafer Loop trail goes east over the Saddle Dam from the trailhead. To reach the horse camp, you must drive further on 162 approximately 2 more miles and turn left into the Loafer Creek camping area.

1000\’ elevation +/- Shady trail in foothills. Excellent footing with occasional rocky areas. Mixed oaks, pines, madrones, seasonal streams. Trail is well-maintained. Parts of it are multi-use including bicycles. Most are reserved for non-mechanical traffic.
The Loafer Creek Equestrian Campground stands out as one of the finest horse camps in the region. The campground is located in Lake Oroville State Recreation Area on the southeast side of the lake. The Equestrian Camp is a short drive beyond the main Loafer Creek Campground. Campers find a fairly level and spacious area shaded by oaks.
The Loafer Creek Equestrian Campground has 15 campsites designated for equestrian use. Each site can accommodate up to 8 people, 2 horses, and 2 vehicles. Tethering and feeding stations are near each site. The driveway length is 42 feet. Amenities include restrooms with flush toilets and showers, horse washing stations, and a warm up area. Large groups may reserve more than one site.
The trail is located in the Lake Oroville State Recreation Area. The information number is (530) 538-2219. Dogs are not allowed on the trail.
