The Knik River Recreation Area offers hundreds of miles of trails into the Knik River Valley. Dense forest gives way to the sandy beaches of the wide Knik River, overlooked by the iconic snow-capped Pioneer Peak. Spend time exploring the forest, or ride along the Knik River bed all the way to the glittering Knik Glacier, 20 miles distant. Trails are abundant throughout this area, but none of them are marked.
To get to the beach, the most straightforward trail begins at the west end of the parking lot. Follow the road south into the woods, and stay on the main trail until you hit the beach. This main trail can be heavily trafficked by recreation vehicles in the summer, especially on the weekends. Once you hit the beach, head east for some truly stunning views of the Knik Glacier.
