In Joshua Tree National Park Ryan Campground, there are horse friendly trails leading to Ryan Ranch, Lost Horse Mine, Wonderland of Rocks, the California Riding & Hiking Trail, and other destinations.
The trails usually follow washes and are sandy, but some trails over the passes through the hills can be rocky. You can ride through Joshua Tree forests and past giant boulder fields
Do not attempt to camp here from April to September as the temperatures can exceed 100 degrees in the summer. It can snow at Ryan Campground in the winter. The best time to visit is late February.

Open October-May for visitors with horses or mules only.
Reservations required: call 760-367-5545. 4 sites, $15/night. No water.
Stock use is limited to horses and mules and is restricted to designated equestrian trails and corridors, open dirt roads, and shoulders of paved roads. Riders should travel single file to reduce damage to soil and vegetation. Stock animals are not permitted within ¼ mile of any natural or constructed water source. Horses and other stock are not permitted on nature trails, in the Wonderland of Rocks, in campgrounds, in picnic areas, or at visitor centers.
