Governor Dodge is one of Wisconsin’s largest parks with 5,270 scenic acres of steep hills, bluffs, and deep valleys plus two lakes and a waterfall. For horse and mule riders and equestrian campers there are over 20 miles of trails that meander through the park’s most scenic areas. An all-new equestrian campground with 20 spacious campsites featuring scenic views  –  designed to accommodate even the largest rigs.

Interior Horse Trail System
This system includes several trail segment totaling 6.7 miles. It connects the Trails End Horse Campground and horse day-use parking area. These trail segment allow riders the option of making several shorter loops from the campground or day use areas by using part of the Meadow Valley Trail, the Woodland Trail or the Old Orchard Pass.

Woodland Trail is a 1.5 mile trail segment on the northeast part of the Interior Trail System. This area of rolling hills takes riders in and out of wooded areas while passing by views of Twin Valley Lake. Follow the red trail markers.
Old Orchard Pass is a 1.25 mile trail section that connects the Interior Trail System to the Outer Horse Traill. Take advantage of beautiful scenes of Twin Valley Lake and gain access to the horse day-use parking area. Follow the green trail markers.

Outer horse trail
This is a 15.3-mile loop trail that winds its way through some of the most scenic and remote areas of the park. The access point is the Horse Day Use Parking Area near Hickory Ridge Group Camp. At the southeast corner of the park, there is a snowmobile access trail that connects with the 40-mile Military Ridge State Trail. Once you have left the Interior System the remaining section of the Outer Loop has no short cuts back. Water is only available one the Outer Loop as you approach the day-use area from Stephan Falls, the day-use area and after you cross Twin Valley Dam. Watering at Twin Valley Dam is dangerous and water should be scooped and presented to the horse in a portable bucket. Bring your own. Footing at the lake is poor and drops off suddenly. Your your and your horse\’s limits and ability before departing.

Upland Trail
This is a 2.5 mile loop trail that begins about .25 mile northeast of the park office at one of the road crossing of the Outer Trail System. Venture through rolling hills as you pass through prairies, woods and near an agricultural field. Follow the magenta tail markers
