FYI – There is a Goose Creek Campground on the creek about 3/4 mile from the equestrian camp, but they don’t allow horses there.
Trail is suitable for a novice rider to the place where it splits, about 6 miles from the trailhead. The trail north to Wigwam park is good until you get to Wigwam park, where the creek crossing is pretty boggy. The trail west is somewhat washed out descending to Refrigerator Gulch, although it presents no big problem for an experienced horse/rider. About ¼ mile past Refrigerator Gulch the trail becomes impassible for all but a super mountain horse that can butt-slide down a huge boulder (but probably cannot come back up over it). Views of the granite monoliths from this trail are spectacular.
The Hankins Pass Trail has a couple of short, steep rocky places which are best for an intermediate rider. Most of the trail is easy. The ride up to Lake Park includes both narrow canyons and wide meadows. It is thoroughly enjoyable. On past Lake Park, the trail passes over the high point with great views of distant terrain. As indicated on maps, past the high point, there is a loop coming back through Hankins Pass for long riders.”

The landscape consists mostly of mixed forests, open meadows and small streams. This is dominated by incredible rock formations, including massive polished granite domes and towering spires. Two wilderness trails, including the popular Goose Creek Trail provides access into the southeast portion of the Lost Creek Wilderness. Please follow all LNT guidelines so that this area remains open to equestrian users.
