Stay on the main road. The road will veer westward for approximately 1.5 miles where you will come to a very obvious parking area.

This trailhead provides access to the Little Bookcliffs Wild Horse Area and Little Bookcliffs Wilderness Study Area via Coal Canyon and Main Canyon. This area is a good place to see wild horses during the winter months. Please follow all LNT guidelines so that this area remains open to equestrian users.
- Land Manager is BLM – Grand Junction Office
- Out of state horses must have current Coggins and health papers
- From December 1 – May 30 Coal Canyon is closed to motorized travel past the trailhead. To the right of the locked gate there is a pass-through for use by hikers and horseback riders which are permitted year round.
