Box Canyon Horse Camp is in the Cascades about 80 miles east of Eugene, next to the historic Box Canyon Guard Station. The horse camp is surrounded by the Three Sisters Wilderness to the east, the Waldo Lake Wilderness to the south, and the Chucksney Mountain Roadless Area to the west. Some of the trails leading from the horse camp involve significant elevation gain. While the trails themselves are not generally steep, there are places where the trails traverse steep hillsides.[From Riding Northwest Oregon Horse Trails, by Kim McCarrel]. Many thanks to TrailMeister’s Oregon Trail Boss Kim McCarrell for the excellent information on this horse riding area. For turn by turn trail directions consult her authoritative books which can be found here.
