If you are looking for a wilderness experience with real isolation you’ll want to investigate the northern end of the Sky Lakes Wilderness.  You can stay at Bessie Shelter Horse Camp, a primitive campground near the Tom and Jerry trailhead.  Many thank to Kim McCarrel for sharing this area!
