SatPaq Satellite Messenger – 2 Year Review

SatPaq Satellite Messenger – 2 Year Review

At the best of times losing your cell signal is annoying — but if you’re trail riding or camping, a case of no signal can mean the difference between life and death.

This is the SatPaq Satellite Messenger from HigherGround. It’s a satellite antenna for your phone.

I’ve been using the SatPaq for the past two years. It’s time to break down what I like and don’t like about it.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE SATPAQ

It always works:

No matter where I’ve used this I’ve always been able to get a message out. Which is more than I can say about some of the other satellite messengers I’ve worked with.

It’s small and lightweight:

The system weighs a slim few ounces, and is small enough to slip into a pocket.

The battery lasts seemingly forever.

The rechargeable battery can hold a charge for months and send hundreds of messages before you need to plug it in.

It’s Inexpensive:

Since SatPaq runs on pay-as-you-go messages, you don’t need to worry about a monthly charge, and can set the messages to automatically top-up when running low.

MY ONE WORRY ABOUT THE SATPAQ:

If I break or lose my phone I’m in trouble. I haven’t yet, but that is the one small worry that I have. I’ve invested in a quality phone case to help keep my phone in one piece.

That old Boy Scout adage. Be prepared.  Still rings true.

Everyone going beyond cell phone range should carry the 10 essentials and for me the SatPaq checks the communications box quite nicely.
