Developed by truckers to secure cargo, this knot works just as well to create a tight highline as it does to hold bales of hay on a trailer. Rather than a single knot the Power Cinch is composed of several Knots working together to form a crude but reliable block and tackle.
-
First, create an overhand loop in the line.
- Pull a loop through the overhand loop, and tighten the formed knot.
- When pulled tight, the end of this rope can be secured with two half hitches and a quick release around the loop of the trucker’s knot.
- This creates the loop that the standing part of the rope can be passed through after going the rings of a tree saver to pull tension.
- By forming multiple loops, enough torque can be created by pulling on the end of the rope to winch stuck horse out of the mud if need be, and certainly enough force to keep a highline hanging overnight.
By learning and using the Power Cinch when setting up a highline you will save space and weight in your saddle bags.
