Tree Saver Straps “Trust in God, but tie up your horse”
Tying your horse not only keep you from walking back to the trailhead, it also helps reduce the impact your stock has on the backcountry. When I set up a highline I always use Tree-Saver straps to prevent the pressure form a highline rope from girdling, and killing, the trees. Tree-Savers are essentially 6 feet of 2 inch wide nylon webbing with “D” rings sewn into each end. Think of seat belt material with rings instead of buckles and you’ve got the right picture. For me Tree-Saver straps are a mandatory item for any overnight trip with the horses. Not only do they reduce my impact, they also make setting up a highline much easier. TIP - When you’re shopping for a set of Tree-Saver straps look for “D’s” that will pass through each other as shown below. Threading the “D” rings will create a noose and, again, make setting up a highline much easier.
