Nalgene Bottles Nalgene bottles are a staple on all of my trips long or short. The wide mouth 32 oz bottles are my favorite and have held untold gallons of water, tea, Koolaid, etc. without a spill or leak in spite of less than gentle care.
Reusable bottles are much preferable, and much less expensive over time, to single use options. I also think they're better ( more green if you will) for the environment. As was mentioned earlier these bottles do not receive any special care. They get tossed into a pack or saddle bag, fall off of logs and rocks, and then go in the dishwasher (top rack) after a trip. My newest bottle (shown below) has been going through this for over 10 years with no issues such as retaining odors, staining, or leaking. I've always used the "plain jane" HDPE bottles (the off white translucent ones shown above) and have been very pleased. For those that want a bit more color Nalgene makes water bottles in every color of the rainbow. * NALGENE TIP * The bottles with loop tops (cap leashes) are handy if you're prone to misplacing the tops. If you go this route take the leash off and reverse it before use. This will keep the lid from snapping you in the face when you want to take a drink.
